Comilla is a big district in Chittagong division, Bangladesh. Comilla located in south-eastern Bangladesh, along with tha Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
Comilla, as a district, is usually administrated by a Deputy Commissioner (DC), who is an official government of the district. However, civil society has pretty strong voice and movement in Comilla. The DC office is located at Fauzdari area of the town on the east side of Dharmasagar. The District of Comilla has been divided into sixteen Thanas, namely Comilla Adarsa Sadar, Comilla Sadar South, Debidwar, Muradnagar, Hoamna, Laksham, Daudkandi, Barura, Burichang, Chandina, Titas, Langolkot, Meghna, Chauddagram, Brahmanpara and Manohargonj.
The main town of Comilla is under the Sadar Thana. Comilla Cantonment is one of most imperative military bases and is the oldest in East Bengal. It was extensively used by the British Indian Army during World War II. There is a war cemetery in Comilla and that was established after the Second World War to keep in mind the associated soldiers who died during World War I and II, frequently from Commonwealth states and the United States. There are a number of Japanese soldiers were buried.
Comilla also has an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at the east end of the town, established on the former site of an airport. At this moment only the airstrip at a standstill exists, whereas other organizations have been rehabilitated to apparatus of the EPZ. It is one of the first mounting EPZ in Bangladesh.
